Locals: TINA Interview

Who are you? How old are you?

I’m Tina, 26

How many months/ years have you been Djing / producing?

This is my 7th year Dj’ing, while I’ve experimented with production when including soundscapes in my art practice – something I continue exploring eagerly.

Mention an artist that inspired you to become a DJ/producer?

I would say it’s more of a moment rather than an artist. I was always fascinated by the energy transfer between artist and crowd – something I felt myself and remain keen to transmit.

Is there a local artist that you look up to and love to see play at events?

I look up to numerous local artists who have been in the scene since the 90’s or early 2000’s, for their perseverance, for their evolving sounds and for seeing through the growth of underground culture to this day. Seeing younger artists still early on in their career pushing forward, it’s a thrill imagining that they’ll be carrying on the flame to the dance floors of the future!

What skills do you think DJs need to be successful?

Curiosity, experimentation and a good ear. Success is very subjective though

How do you stay up to date with the latest music trends?

Recently, writing reviews for new releases on the international mag Hypnotic Techno Circle helped push my digging forward. Intimate foreign festivals such as Paral.lel (SP) were a big part of my music education, too.

What would you say is the most rewarding part of being a DJ?

Sharing sounds – and so being part of a community which isn’t easily dissolved, as it’s connected through appreciating fine music.
