Locals: SUNTA Interview

Who are you? How old are you?

My name’s Mikela, I go by the stage name SUNTA, which a few people know that it’s actually my third name – and I’m 27!

How many months/ years have you been Djing / producing?

I have been DJing for 5 years, and producing for 4 – having my first release in 2019 with Terrence Parker’s label Intangible Records.

Mention an artist that inspired you to become a DJ/producer?

I had wanted to do it for a while, since I started going to Liquid back in 2014 – but I got the balls to actually go for it when I met up with my good friend Acidulant at his studio and got heavily inspired – and I will always be grateful for his mentorship and for pushing me in my first few months!

Is there a local artist that you look up to and love to see play at events?

There’s too much talent to list – but few of my favourites are obviously Acidulant, Natura2k (keep an eye on him, my hard trance king) and Chaos System.

What skills do you think DJs need to be successful?

Just good ears to beat match basically, all this vinyl good cdjs bad is bullshit – and obviously the ability to read the crowd and adjust their set accordingly.

How do you stay up to date with the latest music trends?

Mainly Soundcloud and Bandcamp to dig for music, and using Instagram to follow my favourite artists and labels and keep up to date with releases.

What would you say is the most rewarding part of being a DJ?

Watching people dance and get lost in the music and not give a single fuck – and I mean, other djs and enthusiasts supporting each other.
