Locals: Parvatis Interview

Who are you? How old are you?

I am Darren, stage name ‘Parvatis’ and I am 24 years old.

How many months/ years have you been Djing / producing?

I have been Djing for 2 years now and working on production for about a year and a half.

Mention an artist that inspired you to become a DJ/producer?

I do not think I have a specific artist that inspired me but multiple experiences that got me intrigued to switch from playing guitar to playing electronic music. Seeing Reiner Zonneveld live playing with actual synthesizers and drum machines instead of a ‘Mix’ definetly got me interested. Also multiple videos of ‘KiNK’ jamming on a TR-8 where enough to get me to get one and start working on production.

Is there a local artist that you look up to and love to see play at events?

Even though I mostly work with Techno tracks, I really have a thing for house music. Melchior Sultana playing Live is definitely something I want to experience.

What skills do you think DJs need to be successful?

Apart from knowing how to feel the crowd’s energy and when to play specific tracks, especially if you like to use some cheesy tracks or samples I think being active, consistent, always making sure your fans know you are still there with consistent posts/updates and any works you have will help a lot, marketing I guess.

How do you stay up to date with the latest music trends?

I do not think I am the most up to date when it comes to trends I try to keep watch on certain artists as there are always ideas you can use and improve but being original and taking a different road/idea will make you stand out more, even if maybe sometimes its not the best road/idea.

What would you say is the most rewarding part of being a DJ?

I have yet to experience this but I think the day I hear any of my tracks played at an event especially if I am present. Also connecting with other local artists and seeing them have nice progress is definitely rewarding.
