Locals: NOOG Interview

Who are you? How old are you?

My name is Chris and i’m 37 years old

How many months/ years have you been Djing / producing?

I’ve been djing since i was 20. Started production around 10 years ago and gotten more serious to it during lockdown

Mention an artist that inspired you to become a DJ/producer?

Too many to mention since i was very young i’ve listened and followed many artists, genres and subgenres. But til this day am still fascinated by Jeff Mills and Oscar Mulero. They mostly got me into djing. Producing music on the other hand i would have to say Jean Michele Jarre, Depech Mode, Jeff Wayne, Trent Reznor and Hans Zimmer, his compositions are too overwhelming.

What skills do you think DJs need to be successful?

A good ear for music, the more you listen to artists and bands you follow the more skillful you will become. It’s important to listen, learn and take criticism, don’t be a narcissist and mostly you have to have heart.

How do you stay up to date with the latest music trends?

I mostly follow my favourite labels and the artists around those labels. I try to find time by listening to the artists new releases and find tracks were i can play them more then once in my sets.

Is there a local artist that you look up to and love to see play at events?

Every local artist i’ve heard so far has his/her own unique sound especially in Techno, there is so much talent in the Maltese islands.

But at the moment it has to be Chaos System. Major Potential!

What would you say is the most rewarding part of being a DJ?

Seeing everybody happy in front of you. Music is about bringing people together whatever you listen to. If people had a good time and danced all night to one of my hard techno sets, that is truly rewarding.
