Locals: Matte Interview

Where can we find your music?

I usually upload/share any recorded sets on my SoundCloud Page

Who are you? How old are you?

I’m Matthias Camilleri and I’m 27 years old

What is your stage name?

How many months/ years have you been Djing / producing?

I started my first DJ lessons in 2008, so almost 13 years. A few years ago, I fell in love with the local underground scene and also co-founded Midnite Snack.

Why do you want to share your music?

Some of the best moments of my life were undoubtedly on the dancefloor and I know so many people who would say the same. It’s such a great feeling to share music or perform in front of a crowd and I always feel privileged to do it.

Mention an artist that inspired you to become a DJ/producer?

A few years ago just before I discovered the underground scene, I had been losing a bit of interest in DJing. Then some friends introduced me to artists such as Four Tet, Bicep and Etapp Kyle. These are three of my all-time favourite artists and their music got me hooked to the scene, which then made it easier to get back into it.

Is there a local artist that you look up to and love to see play at events?

At the moment there’s so much local talent and it’s very sad that a lot of upcoming artists were making big waves just before the pandemic, but I’m sure they will continue where they left off.

One of my local favourites is Sean Rickett. He’s versatile and always delivers the right amount of energy on the dance floor. I think my best memory of him in the booth is when he played Next is the E (Moby) at Glitch Club Series

I always look forward to sets from my close friends Dave Space & Budg. They’ve found their own style very early and have been doing quite well recently.

Aspekt & Darren are also two of my favourites. Once again..I hate that I didn’t get to mention others because honestly, there’s quite a good number of locals that are doing very well.
