Locals: JU:NO Interview

Who are you? How old are you?

I’m Daniel Grixti aka JU:NO and I’m 27 years old from Zurrieq.

How many months/ years have you been Djing / producing?

I’ve been DJing for the past 10 years under a different alias and only recently moved on to JU:NO. I’ve been producing for about 7 years.

Mention an artist that inspired you to become a DJ/producer?

I remember watching videos of old-school DJs on turntables and being amazed at the capabilities they showed. One DJ that blew me away would definitely be Jeff Mills playing on 4 turntables at the same time.

What skills do you think DJs need to be successful?

The backbone of DJing would have to be beat matching and mixing but as the world evolves so does the scene. In recent years we’ve seen an increase in media portrayals and this kind of promotion on socials etc, has become an integral to being a successful DJ.

How do you stay up to date with the latest music trends?

I tend to check social media accounts of various labels and DJs to stay updated on upcoming releases but I still believe in listening to podcasts or recorded sets for inspiration.

Is there a local artist that you look up to and love to see play at events?

As local artists go I think some of the best currently would be Muski, Patient and Human Safari but the artist that has the my utmost admiration would be Yazmin, even more so with all the achievements she’s getting with Darren in the newly formed Chaos System, quickly becoming hot property locally while receiving great recognition from abroad.

What would you say is the most rewarding part of being a DJ?

I’d say playing an incredible set and getting recognition from the crowd for how the set was conducted and not only for how many popular bangers you played.
