Locals: Dave Space Interview

Where can we find your music?

Currently, I’m still working on the production as I haven’t found a sound that can define me ( that and the neverending list of unfinished material on Ableton), however, any sets which I’ve released can be found on my Soundcloud under my stage name.

Who are you? How old are you?

My name is David Grech and I’m 26 years old. I’m currently working with two-party promotions: Midnite Snack, (together with resident DJs Budg & Matte), where our focus is to bring artists who are diverse in their style along with the genres of house & electro; & Selekt, (along with residents Aspekt, Etched & Podi) which we thrive to bring upcoming artists who are relevant to the techno scene specifically.

What is your stage name?

Dave Space

How many months/ years have you been Djing / producing?

I’ve been Djing for the past 2 years and I’ve been working on production for the past year, give or take.

Why do you want to share your music?

There is something special in sharing music as I believe it creates a connection between people that sometimes even words fail to describe.

Mention an artist that inspired you to become a DJ/producer?

I was always deeply fond of electronic music from an early age being fond of artists such as Laurent Garnier, Dave Clarke, NDK, Alter Ego, however, I had gotten into it more at the age of 20 as I constantly searched for sets of Laurent Garnier, Derrick May & Dave Angel and decided that I wanted to pursue it as something I’d love to do in the future.

Is there a local artist that you look up to and love to see play at events?

An easy question and not at the same time as there are many that I can mention, but most notably I’d say that Sean Rickett & Manthrax were two DJs that I’ve looked up to especially from a young age as I’ve always found their track selection and taking risks approach as something I should be focusing more when DJing. However, I’ve learnt a lot from veteran DJs such as Gordon Flash and Owen Jay both of whom have given me different opportunities and have helped me further my knowledge with regards to the electronic music scene.
