Locals: Claytonic Interview

Who are you? How old are you?

Clayton Cauchi & I’m 30 years old.

What is your stage name?

Claytonic

How many months/ years have you been Djing / producing?

I have been djing since I was 17 years, which makes them 13 years behind the decks. One year ago, I also started to experiment with music production, and I love it! It’s another world where you can truly express yourself!

Why do you want to share your music?

Since I was young kid music had a special place in my heart. At the beginning of my teenage years, I used to watch videos of events and DJs and was immediately amazed by everything… The clubs, the music, the vibe… everything. It was kind of love at first sight. Then I started to attend events myself and felt that I wanted to be that person in the club who is musically in control. Whose job is to make a whole room fall in love with the music he/she is playing. For me djing is not just choosing a few tunes. It is about generating shared moods. It is about understanding the feelings of a group of people and directing them to a better place.

Mention an artist that inspired you to become a DJ/producer?

No one in general. Most probably those DJs, both local and foreign ones who I used to listen to at my first clubbing experiences. I loved the way they created the vibe by the music they played, so I wanted to become one of them too!

Is there a local artist that you look up to and love to see play at events?

Many people know that I am a good friend of DJ Ruby. I’ve worked closely with him and the number of times I have been at his studio are countless. I admire how passionate and perfectionist he is. Every single detail in what he does counts, so obviously, I look up to him because I have learned a lot from him. His attitude behind the decks is a very positive one too. In the techno scene, I like Cain & Manthrax the most. They always deliver excellent sets which I enjoy a lot!
