Locals: AKID Interview

Who are you? How old are you?

I am a kid (Kyle O’Callaghan). Originally from London, I am the new kid on the block that will be tearing up your local clubs in the coming future. I am twenty three years young.

How many months/ years have you been Djing / producing?

8 months djing and 2 years producing/learning on hardware.

Mention an artist that inspired you to become a DJ/producer?

Aphex Twin

Is there a local artist that you look up to and love to see play at events?

The amazing people from Vacuum and RIOT culture (GRDNT, Inverted, Parvatis, DameDePique, Kaos, Owen Offset, Reactant). Without these people I would not have any of the opportunities I have now. More specifically, a big shout out to GRDNT.

What skills do you think DJs need to be successful?

Tracks that make sense to your style or the style of the party and have good order in intensity. Queues are important so that way you can use them to your advantage. Slick transitions and knowing the timings of your tracks. It must feel like a big journey.

How do you stay up to date with the latest music trends?

I use Bandcamp, Soundcloud, Youtube, Spotify, Discogs. When out I am going to Liquid, Kuncett, Gianpula, Tigullio. Friends also show me tracks they have been working on or have been listening to.

What would you say is the most rewarding part of being a DJ?

The ability to connect people of all shapes, sizes, colours through the power of a speaker system.
